'Candy game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer camp which he ran.
The man conducted a "sweet game" with the minors, the legal counsel explained, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge the man had engaged in this activity with the young males "repeatedly", and children had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She stated the man had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had worries in summer 2025.
The legal representative continued: "In the summer" his family member had concerns about the situation, with valid cause.
"They resolved" to examine in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC explained objects including baby oil, Vaseline and medical needles were discovered, and his family member contacted the police about his suspicions.
She explained the defendant went on to engage in the "sweet game" with six children that time - that Saturday - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"Authorities" had not responded by that stage," she continued.
The police watchdog, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
Mrs Prior said the children were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the stepson called the law enforcement a second time.
She stated Ruben then played the "treat game" in a room of five children.
