Edwards along with O'Neil represent the early candidates in the frame to succeed the former manager as manager of Wolves.

The previous coach was sacked on the weekend after the team's ten-game winless beginning to the Premier League campaign.

And Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have previous links to the club - are part of the names to be evaluated by the Wolves leadership.

Edwards is presently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a possible obstacle to his hiring at Molineux.

However the ex- Luton Town head coach - who made over a century of appearances for the club during his time as a player - is said to be a strong contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is said to have support from the Wolves directors as they begin the process of appointing a new head coach.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise candidate, even though he would be a surprising appointment considering he was released by Wolves in December last year.

The former West Ham United midfielder is out of work which means Wolves would not need to pay any compensation.
